David Lean’s 1962 biopic of T.E. Lawrence is a long movie (227 minutes) that was a long time in the making (24 months in pre-production, plus 14 months of shooting). Small wonder, then, that “Lawrence of Arabia” also took a long time coming to Blu-ray.
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The plaudits Lawrence of Arabia has received over the years are completely appropriate, as this stunning epic fully deserves as much praise as can be heaped upon it. Lawrence is an amazing piece of work that never fails to entertain and delight. As for the Blu-ray, it mixes nearly immaculate visuals, solid audio and a generally positive set of supplements. Overall, 'Lawrence of Arabia' sounds great on Blu-ray, matching the theatrical experience of the prior restoration perfectly. If you've ever owned the film on DVD, you'll be familiar with this track, so it's not quite the revelatory improvement as the video, but there are some notable clarity improvements, especially in the sound effects.
